In some instances, it provides a link to detailed instructions on what you must do to make an otherwise-incompatible application work with Windows 8. I found that ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES was missing under permissions in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, in registry edit (regedit) I added it, and granted READ permission, and everything is working fine.
