What was really funny was that the connected USB mouse and keyboard worked fine in the BIOS and it even worked when I loaded a different operating system on my dual I thought it was some other software that I installed, and ran a restore session, but that wasn't the issue. You might have to borrow someone else's computer. Any more solutions? Thankfully removing the CMOS chip is not all that bad. Is this likely to be a problem?
I had forgotten that during the time when this problem arose, there was a failed install of my AMD chipset drivers, so luckily I had not deleted the source file and There is a way to tell if it's the update that caused the problem. If so, try different usb ports. SevenForums has an awesome tutorial that walks you through the whole process and explains all the caveats, etc.
