I would have to remove power and power back up the router. I work tech support all day every day and have fixed wireless connectivity issues like this for hundreds of people. Assuming all went well at Starbucks, it's always nice to go to a friends house that has wireless to see if you can connect to their network. You can certainly buy one but unless the router you have is bad, this isn't likely to help. You CAN add wireless to a desktop PC but right out of the box, most desktops don't have a way to connect wirelessly. If the connection drops at Starbucks, then you have a problem with your laptop.
